Choosing Your Voltage and Power
- Match the battery you already run: for an e bike conversion kit, a scooter or a skateboard drive, staying with your pack voltage keeps the rest of the build untouched.
- For light machines, the 36V and 48V brushless dc motor ratings from 1000W to 1600W give useful pull without asking much current from a small pack.
- For hills and heavier riders on a 48V pack, the 48V 2000W is the torque pick of the range.
- For faster scooters, the 60V versions trade a little low-end pull for top-end speed: the 2000W reaches a 5400 r/min maximum and the 2500W peaks between 5500 and 6500 r/min.
- For the heaviest builds, the 72V 3000W is rated for about 100–200 kg, the point where a scooter or small bike is carrying real weight at speed.
Copper Windings, Cooling and Fit Options
- Copper windings — pure copper is used for high energy efficiency and heat resistance, so this brushless motor keeps its output steady through repeated stop-start running.
- Air moving over the body carries heat away between pulls, and the motor cools down faster after a hard run instead of holding it.
- Take the bracket version for a first build or a frame with no cradle; take the bracket-free version when you are reusing an old mount, adapting a cradle or cutting your own plate.
- The standard build suits short commutes, light riders and flat routes, while the heat sink version adds surface area for heavy loads, regular hills and long stretches at full throttle.
Battery and Controller Pairing
Each rating draws its own current, and that figure — not the wattage alone — is what your battery, wiring and connectors have to deliver. Check that your brushless motor controller is rated to carry that current continuously, because a controller running at its limit tends to cut out under load and run hot. Your battery's BMS needs the same headroom: a pack that sags, cuts out or warms up under load is being asked for more than it is rated to give. Higher-voltage versions draw fewer amps for the same rated power, which is easier on cable and plugs, so size the wiring for the current you are actually pulling.
Where the Mid-Drive Layout Fits
This brushless motor drives through a chain, so the machines that suit it are the ones built that way: scooters, skateboard drives, mini e-motorcycles, e-bike builds and DIY frames of your own design. It is not a hub motor and will not drop into a wheel, so plan on a cradle or plate, a chain run and a controller matched to the voltage you pick. Frame clearance, the distance to the rear sprocket and the chain line decide the fit far more than the name on the machine, so measure the mount area before you order.
Technical Support & Model Matching
Not sure which motor suits your build? Our team helps you match a brushless motor or complete kit to your voltage, wattage, sprocket type and controller, so the parts work together from the first ride. We can advise on sine-wave controller pairings for Hall motors, sprocket and chain compatibility, and temperature-sensor options for builds that run hot. Need a base-mounted version or a different power rating? Just ask. We also guide installation, wiring and basic fault-finding once your order arrives.
FAQ
Which rating should I choose for my machine?
Start with the pack you already have and stay in its voltage, then choose the power around what the machine has to do. Light scooters and skateboard drives are well served at the lower end of the range, while hills, heavier riders and faster cruising push you toward 60V and 72V. If you are deciding between two ratings, tell us what you are riding, how much it carries and how steep your routes get, and we will point you to the one that fits.
Will it work in a scooter or e-bike build?
Yes, as long as the motor can sit in a cradle or on a plate with a straight chain run to the rear sprocket, which is how most scooter and e-bike conversions are laid out. As an electric scooter motor it is a familiar fit for chain-driven scooters, and the same layout carries over to e-bike conversions and skateboard drives. Send us your frame measurements and the parts you plan to run, and we will tell you whether the rating you picked leaves enough clearance.
Will my own controller and battery work with this motor?
If your brushless motor controller matches the voltage you choose and can carry that rating's current continuously, it will drive the motor without drama. Controllers running right at their limit are the usual cause of cut-outs and heat, so leave headroom, and make sure the battery pack can supply the same current without sagging. Send us the controller model and pack details if you would like the pairing checked before you order.
Can I order a base-mounted version or a different power rating?
Yes — if your frame needs a base-mounted motor or a rating that is not listed here, tell us what you are building and we will look at it with you. The brushless dc motor platform is shared across the range, so the mounting and chain layout usually carries over to a custom request. Include your voltage, the load the machine carries and how the motor will be mounted, and we will come back with what is possible.
How should I look after the motor?
Keep the body and its cooling path clear of mud, dust and road grit, because a coated motor cannot shed heat as well. Recheck the mounting bolts and chain tension after the first few rides and again at the start of each season — a slack chain loads the sprocket and bearings for no reason. Note how warm the motor runs after a long climb; if it is hot every time, ease off and let it cool between pulls instead of pushing through.
What else do I need to complete the build?
A running machine also needs a chain matched to the motor's drive sprocket, a controller rated for the voltage and current you chose, a throttle or pedal-assist input, and a battery pack that can supply the current. If you would rather buy the parts together, tell us what you are building — an e bike conversion kit, a scooter or a mid-drive project — and we will help you match them. Send us the frame details and the load you expect, and we will help you size the chain, controller and throttle around the rating you picked.
